To start off, my life has always been – animals are put first. Yours and mine.

During my childhood I grew up in Downer, MN. I spent as much time outside as I could! It was me and my dog. Out on adventures. Getting as dirty as possible (sorry mom).

Right before high school, our family moved to Franklin lake right outside of Pelican Rapids. Which meant more trees, more space and more PETS! I have always grown up with dogs, cats, hamsters & parakeets. We soon added chickens, ducks, geese and a turkey or two.

In my 10th year of high school I finally got a job at Weckwerth Animal Hospital as their first-ever kennel care attendant. Every day, before and after school, I’d faithfully care for boarding, post-surgery and hospitalized patients. On days off from school, I’d work in the clinic, assisting the technicians and doctors. This experience was extremely valuable. It allowed me to realize my calling, what I wanted for a career and I just might be good at it.

I was accepted into the veterinary technician program at Ridgewater College in Willmar, MN in 2001. I completed a 10 week internship at the MN Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Roseville, MN & also a 10 week rotation at the University of MN Veterinary Medical Center. I graduated in 2004 on the Dean’s List and after passing the national and state veterinary technician board exams, I was finally a certified veterinary technician.

I have worked in a couple different clinics since graduating. Each clinic offers continued knowledge and experience with different techniques and procedures. I’m comfortable with large and small animals, including exotics and wildlife.

I’ve made a full circle and in 2013 I have once again returned to Weckwerth Animal Hospital. Now as a lead certified veterinary technician and Inventory Manager.

I spend my time away from work at my home near Franklin Lake. I currently have 2 dogs, 4 cats, 20 chickens (laying hens), 7 ducks, 6 geese, 3 turkeys and 4 guinea hens. Yes! They keep me VERY busy!

Amanda is originally from Moorhead, Minnesota but currently lives in Fargo, North Dakota. She attended North Dakota State University, initially majoring in criminal justice; she also took a few classes in the veterinary field. She decided she could not imagine doing anything but working with animals and changed her major to veterinary technology.

While going to school, Amanda worked at Rover’s Playhouse, a daycare and boarding facility for pets. Amanda graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the veterinary technology program at NDSU in June of 2016. She then completed an externship here at Weckwerth Animal Hospital. After completing her externship, she became a valued member of our team.

Amanda has a very friendly disposition with an eagerness to learn new things. She almost always has a smile on her face and loves to see all the incredible pets that come to see us each day. She and her fiancé Jerad share their home with a very spoiled feline rescue, Xena. During her free time Amanda enjoys relaxing at home and spending time with family.

My name is Daidre and I am originally from the Fergus Falls area.

I also have extensive training in customer/patient care services that include long term nursing facility, personal banking, certified nursing assistant for the ultrasound department, radio sales advertising specialist, as well as an optometry receptionist.

I have always had a special connection to animals since a very young age, and to this day I have family, friends and strangers who come to me for advice and directions for animal care. I am an advocate for animal rights and protection. I have been known to pick up strays, and injured animals to get them to safety.

We share our home with 4 dogs, Nala (yellow lab) Theo (chorkie) Dusty and Bindi (long hair chihuahuas) and 3 cats Kali, Ghost and Hope. Prior to moving to the lake we basically had a funny farm that included goats peacocks rabbits chickens ducks horses and potbellied pigs!
