Alexis (aka Lexy), Certified Veterinary Technician
Hello!
To start off, my life has always been - animals are put first. Yours and mine.
During my childhood I grew up in Downer, MN. I spent as much time outside as I could! It was me and my dog. Out on adventures. Getting as dirty as possible (sorry mom).
Right before high school, our family moved to Franklin lake right outside of Pelican Rapids. Which meant more trees, more space and more PETS! I have always grown up with dogs, cats, hamsters & parakeets. We soon added chickens, ducks, geese and a turkey or two.
In my 10th year of high school I finally got a job at Weckwerth Animal Hospital as their first-ever kennel care attendant. Every day, before and after school, I’d faithfully care for boarding, post-surgery and hospitalized patients. On days off from school, I’d work in the clinic, assisting the technicians and doctors. This experience was extremely valuable. It allowed me to realize my calling, what I wanted for a career and I just might be good at it.
I was accepted into the veterinary technician program at Ridgewater College in Willmar, MN in 2001. I completed a 10 week internship at the MN Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Roseville, MN & also a 10 week rotation at the University of MN Veterinary Medical Center. I graduated in 2004 on the Dean’s List and after passing the national and state veterinary technician board exams, I was finally a certified veterinary technician.
I have worked in a couple different clinics since graduating. Each clinic offers continued knowledge and experience with different techniques and procedures. I’m comfortable with large and small animals, including exotics and wildlife.
I’ve made a full circle and in 2013 I have once again returned to Weckwerth Animal Hospital. Now as a lead certified veterinary technician and Inventory Manager.
I spend my time away from work at my home near Franklin Lake. I currently have 2 dogs, 4 cats, 20 chickens (laying hens), 7 ducks, 6 geese, 3 turkeys and 4 guinea hens. Yes! They keep me VERY busy!
